The term "Packraft" was invented back in the 1970s and was used for lightweight boats made by American Safety Equipment for wilderness exploration. However the boat designs were simple, and the materials were not close to the same quality that we use today. By the end of the 1980s the last manufacturers had shut down, and packrafting was dying.
In the early 2000s modern Packrafting was born. Technological improvements made materials a lot more durable, and in the last 20 years there have been incredible developments in both material technology and design.
Modern packrafts are light enough to be carried long distances, packrafts are the perfect add-on to any adventure. Biking, hiking, car camping, traveling, or paddling in your own backyard. Packrafts pack up small and are very light weight making them easy to store and transport. Grab a paddle, strap any larger gear on top, and you’re ready to get out on the water!
